Let an AI agent work on your site.
Today WP never connects to your site: it gives your agent current WordPress knowledge. To let the agent read or change the site itself, you add a connector to the site. Here is what each one does today.
The one thing most people get wrong: WordPress's official MCP Adapter can't be used from ChatGPT or claude.ai on the web today, because it has no OAuth sign-in. Its own guide says so. From those apps, a self-hosted site needs a connector that adds OAuth, or WordPress.com / Jetpack.

Seen 6 November 2026 on each project's own page, in alphabetical order, not a ranking. Around twenty other plugins add an MCP server too. The official AI plugin (1.5.0) has an MCP Access experiment; its write abilities are planned for 1.6.0 and OAuth for WordPress 7.3 (make.wordpress.org/ai).
Before you connect any of them
- Use a user with a low role. An Editor can write content; an Administrator can install plugins and change settings. Give the agent only what the task needs.
- Back up first. Check that your host or plugin backups run, and that you know how to restore one.
- Start read-only. Most connectors let you allow reading first and writing later.
- Use a staging copy for big changes when your host offers one.
- Know how to disconnect. Each connector has a place to revoke the agent's access.
